Peytons "Pey"back

What exactly is this you might ask? No , Peyton didn't just drop another million to enhance the cafeteria on campus so that the new three star recruits can beef up. He did, however, Just lead the Indianappolis Colts back to the Super Bowl. As I watched the game yesterday, I could see Peyton, as he normally does, reading his playbook. The funny thing was each time the Jets scored, Peyton never really seemed to mind. He would just methodically go back to work and bring his team back . Peyton seemed to be on a mission.

Well.... He is playing for the Superbowl you might say. But is that really it. Why is Peyton such a perfectionist. I mean when he drops back for a pass, the guy reminds me of a V8 engine with OCD. He is going to make something happen and it going to be pretty close to perfect. But there has to be more right? I mean he already has a Superbowl Ring, what else does he have to prove to the world? He must want revenge. Could it be, I mean after all  he did get looked over for the Heisman, not once but twice in 1995 and 1997.  Why couldn't the world of sports see then that Peyton was the real deal.

So in two weeks, on Feb 7, 2010, Peyton will once again take center stage on the biggest of all stages in Sports. You know, the first Superbowl ring may have been enough to cover the 1995 mishap, But a second may complete the grand mistake of 1997.  You see no Heisman winner during the four years Peyton attended Tennessee has ever won a Super Bowl trophy. Only two of them came close, Eddie Goerge with the Titans, and Charles Woodson with the Raiders.

Peyton Manning probably is not bitter about the Heisman, or at least not as bitter as the state of Tennessee. But for Peyton to get what he so rightfully deserves the football world will have to endure his 'Pey"back.
