Kent Turene was one of the most heavily recruited linebackers in the country with over 40 offers, but decided to end the recruiting process early by committing to Lane Kiffin.
“I just called them and said that I wanted to make it official,” Turene said. “Everybody was yelling and excited.
“I have been talking to the coaches for a very long time now. I have just been doing all of my research and found out that USC was the right school for me. I got a great feeling from the coaches.”
The 6-3, 225-pound linebacker said that he had previously made his decision but waited to make it known to the public.
“I wanted to really make an early decision, and what made it was the coaches. They have a great staff,” Turene said. “I have a great relationship with Coach Barry and they have a great staff with a great defensive coordinator like Monte Kiffin. I sat down to talk to him about defenses. All of that just wanted me to come and play for a great program with a great defense.”
The opportunity to play for USC assistant coaches Monte Kiffin and Joe Barry played a factor in Turene’s decision to leave Florida and head to the West Coast.
