Monday, Jan. 03, 2011

Will Mike Bellamy bring his Talents to UT?
WITH THE SHAKEUP on Clemson’s offensive staff Sunday, there is much speculation in recruiting circles about the commitments of running backs Mike Bellamy and Sammy Watkins. The Florida natives are the top offensive commitments for the Tigers. Bellamy is at the Under Armour All-American Game this week. Bellamy would not comment about his commitment Sunday, but he did say three unnamed schools were coming after him. Tennessee, Florida and Florida State have remained hot after Bellamy. Watkins has not indicated he is wavering on his commitment to the Tigers.

Defensive end Ray Drew (6-5, 250) of Thomasville, Ga., will visit Clemson on Jan. 21. Drew has visited LSU, Auburn, and Georgia. He will play in the Army All-America game Jan. 8. He says Clemson, Auburn, LSU and Georgia are all even with him.

Defensive lineman Brandon Clemons (6-4, 255) of Milford, Pa., remains interested in USC and is looking at USC and Pitt for his final visit. He has visited Boston College, Connecticut and Maryland and is scheduled to visit Michigan State on Jan. 14.

Linebacker Cedrick Cooper (6-2, 204) of Lithonia, Ga., has visited Arkansas and has January visits set with NC State on the 14th, USC on the 21st and Ole Miss on the 28th. He’s undecided about taking a fifth visit. He has been considering Clemson, but he does not have a favorite.

Offensive lineman Josue Matias (6-5, 300) of Union City, N.J., was favoring USC, Rutgers and Florida but now has added Miami to the list. He has visited Florida, North Carolina and Wisconsin and is scheduled to visit USC on Jan. 14. He is unsure if he will take a fifth visit, but if he does, it will be between Miami and Rutgers. Matias had an in-home visit with USC coach Steve Spurrier. He does not have a time frame for his decision and does not have a favorite.

Defensive end Jeoffrey Pagan (6-4, 250) of Asheville, N.C., will visit Clemson on Jan. 14, according to his coach, Danny Wilkins. He says Pagan will visit LSU and Alabama the nest two weeks. Pagan was committed to Florida but has dropped the Gators.

Defensive back Pat Martin (6-0, 192) of J.L. Mann has set a visit with Miami. Martin will visit Tennessee on Jan. 14, Arkansas on Jan. 21 and Miami on Jan. 28. He says those are the only visits he will take. Martin is a Volunteer .

Offensive lineman Xavier Ward (6-7, 260) of Moultrie, Ga., will visit Alabama on Jan. 7, Florida the following week and Auburn the week after that. His final visit will be either Clemson or Georgia on Jan. 28. Ward does not have a favorite.

Defensive end Leon Mackey of Hinds (Miss.) JC has cut his list to USC, Tennessee and Mississippi State. Mackey is expecting coaches from all three schools to visit with him and his family at his home in Delaware before he returns to Hinds on Jan. 9. He has visited USC and Tennessee and will visit Mississippi State on Jan. 14. Mackey said he’s dropped Texas Tech and Alabama from his list and will make his decision after his visit to Starkville. He does not have a favorite.

Daniel wide receiver Antonio Cannon committed to Kentucky in May after Joker Phillips became the first coach to offer him. But according to the Kentucky fan website BleedBlueKentucky.com, Phillips has pulled the offer from Cannon. The report said Kentucky had few scholarships left and had just received a commitment from another receiver. It is not known if Cannon has other major offers.

One of the top junior offensive lineman prospects in the country, Vadal Alexander (6-6, 310) of Buford, Ga., was on hand for one of USC’s bowl practices last week. Buford is heavily recruited by the Gamecocks, and they are one of early offers for Alexander. Others include Clemson, Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, LSU, North Carolina and Tennessee.
